Hello, my name is David Byrne. I am a clinical psychologist and I have practiced at Peace of Mind Wellness for just over a year. For about the previous 20 years I practiced in Watertown Wisconsin at Family Resources Associates. I am a general practice psychologist, which means that I see a wide variety of people in a wide variety of circumstances. If there is a situation or set of concerns that are beyond my experience and expertise, I help that person find a suitable therapist. Fortunately, that does not happen very much. My background and training cover a wide variety of situations and experiences that include working in psychiatric hospitals, college counseling centers, correctional institutions, children’s clinics, and private practice.

It is a privilege to meet and collaborate with people in counseling. I view the counseling relationship as a collaboration. It has been my repeated experience over many years that people will get well and find some degree of peace of mind if they learn to love and value themselves as they are, surround themselves with people who value and love them, and discover the meaning and purpose of their lives.

I like to help people develop a new relationship with their thoughts and feelings. That may sound odd, but many of us grew up accepting the thoughts of others as our own and in the process learned to believe things about ourselves that were destructive and untrue. We learned to automatically treat our thoughts feelings as automatically true. This can hurt us, confuse us, and lead us in difficult directions. We are not our thoughts and feelings. Our thoughts and feelings are something that we go through or experience, but they are not who we are. I learned this mindful approach late in life. Having had my personal experience with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I know what it is like to be at the mercy of my thoughts and feelings.

Peace of Mind Wellness clinic in Oconomowoc is a place to sort through your thoughts and feelings, develop the ability to decide what you want to do with them. If you are experiencing anything that is hurting you, whether it is from the past or present, or past and present trauma, this is a place to start moving away from the past and coming to the present moment.

I have been married for almost 30 years and I have three sons and three dogs. Two sons are out of the home, in Spain and in college, but one son and three dogs remain. I like to read, write, and listen to music. Sometimes I like to get out and walk in the woods. Sometimes I like to go birding. And sometimes I like to just get out and go somewhere, anywhere.

I am happy to discuss the possibility of meeting and collaborating with you and answer any questions you might have about therapy. Any question is fair. The truest thing in the world is that we are all of infinite value and lovability, but sometimes for many reasons we cannot see it. Therapy is a place to open your eyes to that realization. Please feel free to contact me at 262-226-2726 or email me at [email protected] and feel free to do it after hours.
